The International Perfumery Contest

Teià, May 26, 2018. Coinciding with the second edition of the “Maridatge dels Sentits”, Teià held the first International Mouillette d’Argent Perfumery Contest. The event, sponsored by the Beauty Cluster Barcelona, consisted of an annual event aimed at professional perfumers from around the world who wanted to make known their creative capacity.

The jury of the award was chaired by Rossend Mateu, Maître perfumista, and also have been part: Àlex Susanna (writer, poet and cultural promoter), César Cánovas (sommelier – Monvinic, best sommelier of Spain 2006), Charo Moreno (director of BeautyProf Magazine), Marina Barcenillas (Perfumist and Astronomer, MBparfums Founder, Fragrance Foundation 2016 Best Independent Perfume Award), Ernesto Collado (perfumer, actor and creator, Brava Nariz Founder), Irene Gisbert (perfumer and anthropologist). Co-founder of Ainea Perfumes).

The awards ceremony took place in the Ca l’Antiga art space. It was chaired by the Mayor of Teià, Mr. Andreu Bosch and directed by Ivan Borrego, manager of the Beauty Cluster Barcelona. For this first call, the perfumes that have been presented have contained at least one of the three essences produced by the orange tree: the neroli, which is obtained from the orange blossom petals; petitgrain, essential oil from the leaves of the orange tree; or the orange, which is obtained from the skin of the fruit. A total of 14 perfumers from 4 different countries have entered the contest.

During the gala, which was attended by a hundred people, Rosendo Mateu as president of the jury has awarded the prize for the best perfume. After a complex deliberation due to the high level of perfumes presented, ‘Al Zahir’ was awarded, created by Alberto Fernández, a young Londoner based in Barcelona. The public award, which has been by open voting between the residents of Teià and all those attending the “Maridatge dels Sentits”, has been for the perfume ‘Bal d’Oranger’ created by Paris perfumer Ane Ayo who has obtained near 50% of the more than 200 votes cast. The public’s award was presented by Montse Martí, president of the Beauty Cluster Barcelona. Both winners have received as a prize a silver reproduction of a Mouillette created for the occasion by Roc Majoral, of the Joeiria Majoral, and sponsored by the Beauty Cluster Barcelona.

All the participants have received a diploma accrediting their participation, a gift from the Beauty Cluster Barcelona and a ceramic Mouillette commemorating the contest.
After a first edition that concluded with a great success of assistance, impact and quality of perfumes presented by international perfumers, the organization has already begun to work to define the edition that will take place in 2019 and in which it will be actively involved again the Beauty Cluster Barcelona and its companies specialized in the field of perfume and the olfactory world.
